A quick check of my calendar this morning reminded me that I am presenting a session for the PASS Performance Virtual Chapter this week. It’s completely free, you just need to be a member of PASS in order to register. Not a member of PASS or unsure what it offers you? Check out this link about becoming a member that explains all. It’s free, there’s no catches, so no reason not to join. Unless of course you’re not interested in SQL Server in which case you really shouldn’t be on this site. Seriously, go away! This session The session itself starts at 19:00 UTC on the 5th December, click on the link to see what time that is in your area. Registrations are being held via GoToWebinar here . The title and abstract are below: Natural Born Killers, Performance Issues to avoid From watching this session you’ll learn simple tricks to write and design better code, scripts, and tables. You will gain a deeper understanding of common database development and administration mistakes, and how you can avoid them. Plus, you’ll learn how to take corrective action when: The optimizer isn’t using all available processors The database engine fails to report all the resources a query has used The optimizer uses the wrong plan Database tables cause memory issues Other Sessions The PASS Performance Virtual Chapter record all of their sessions, this means there’s a very good chance that the problem you’re suffering from right now could be solved by one of these recordings. Go to the meeting archive page on their site to find out more. If you are interested in any of the presentations that I am doing, then you can find out more about them on my presentations page. I’ve also started sharing some of my slide decks on Slideshare . Other Virtual Chapters There are a number of other PASS Virtual Chapters, so if performance tuning is not your area then why not check the PASS website to see what other virtual chapters there are which can help you in your chosen career. At the moment the list of chapters looks something like this: Application Development Azure Big Data Virtual Chapter Book Readers Business Analytics Business Intelligence Data Architecture Database Administration DBA Fundamentals Global Chinese Global Hebrew Global Portuguese Global Russian Global Spanish Healthcare Master Data\Data Quality Virtual Chapter Oracle SQL Performance Powershell Professional Development Security Virtual Chapter Virtualization Women in Technology As you can see, there should be something of interest for almost every SQL Server professional.
