Tomorrow evening I have the honour of speaking at Microsoft’s office in Clausen, Luxembourg. The session I will be presenting is entitled “Natural Born Killers; Performance Issues to Avoid” which I serialized in a succession of blog posts here – Natural Born Killers (The series) . Natural Born Killers; Performance Issues to Avoid Learning SQL is easy, mastering it is hard. In this session you’ll learn simple but effective tricks to design your database objects better and write more optimized code. As an attendee you will gain a deeper understanding of common database development and administration mistakes, and how you can avoid them. Ever thought that you were adhering to best practices but still seeing performance problems? You might well be. In this session I will be covering why the optimizer isn’t using all available processors, when the database engine fails to report all the resources a query has used and why the optimizer doesn’t always use the best plan. You will leave this session with a list of things that you can check for in your environment to improve performance for your users. This presentation will be followed by a session by Tom Van Zele. You can register for this free event here – http://sqlserverluxembourg.eventbrite.com/ If you want to know more about SQL Server activity in Luxembourg then take a look at this community site – http://luxemburg.sqlpass.org/ As an aside, whenever you do go to a community event please make sure that you say thank you to the organisers and sponsors. It means a great deal to them and they would love to hear your feedback. Should you not be able to travel to Luxembourg tomorrow, don’t worry. There’s a list of all my planned future talks in 2014 , alternatively you can view some of my previous slide decks on SlideShare.net Richard Douglas Richard is a Systems Consultant for a vendor of SQL Server solutions where he specialises in SQL Server providing solutions and system health checks to organisations across the EMEA region.
